McKinney, Mansfield & College Station Win State Titles

The 2024-2025 High School Hockey season ended with three exciting State Championship Games.  In the Gold Division, McKinney nudged by Keller 2-1 in Overtime.  In the 2A Division, Mansfield beat Southlake Carroll in a shootout 5-4.  In the 2B Division, College Station beat Memorial West 5-4. 

Gold Division, McKinney

McKinney knocked off a determined Keller squad 2-1 in an OT thriller.  The game was scoreless deep into the 3rd period until Tate Cakir scored to give McKinney a 1-0 lead.  It looked like that goal would be enough but Keller pulled their goalie and with 24 seconds left, Mason Wolfe tied the game at 1.  In OT both teams had chances, but it was McKinney's Nicholas Carey who scored the game winner.  It was an extremely well-played game with only 1 minor penalty.  The Tournament MVP was McKinney goalie Aiden Cakir who led all tournament goalies with 1.43 GAA and .952 save %.  Congratulations to McKinney. Both teams have earned a bid to the USA Hockey National Tournament in Irvine, California March 26-30. 

2A Division Mansfield

In a thrilling game, Mansfield got by Southlake 5-4 in a shootout.  It was a back-and-forth game with neither team having more than a one goal lead at any point in the game. The score was 3-3 late in the 3rd when Southlake scored to grab a 4-3 lead.  With just over a minute left, Mansfield pulled their goalie and was able to score the equalizer.  The teams traded chances during 15 minutes of overtime but neither team could find the back of the net.  In the shootout, Mansfield was able to score twice while Southlake was unable to score giving Mansfield the Championship.

2B Division College Station

In another exciting game, College Station beat ISHL rival, Memorial West 5-4.  College Station jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd period and a 4-2 lead early in the 3rd only to have Memorial score twice within 30 seconds midway through the 3rd period.  With 90 seconds left in the 3rd period, College Station was able to score the game winner and claim the 2B Crown.
