26th Season Concludes with the City Championships
Frisco West beat McKinney 4-3 in the Varsity Gold Championship. Frisco jumped out to a 2-0, first period lead on goals by Alex Cochran and Henry Pinkerman. McKinney fought back in the second with goals from Michael Tracy and Owen Seibert. Less than a minute after McKinney tied the game, Frisco West's, Cameron Constantino scored to put Frisco back in front 3-2. The teams traded goals in the third period with Frisco's Alex Cochran and McKinney's Owen Seibert each scoring their second goal of the night. Frisco Goalie Ryan Foto stopped 22 of 25 McKinney shots and McKinney goalie, Aiden Cakir stopped 30 of 34. Congratulations Frisco West!
The Southlake Carroll Dragons beat a pesky Highland Park Scots team 6-3 to claim the Varsity Silver Championship. The Dragons jumped out to an early 2-0 first period lead before HP closed the gap to 2-1. The Scots tied the score early in the 2nd, but Southlake countered with 3 goals in less than 6 minutes to take a 5-2 lead into the 3rd period. Highland Park cut the gap to 5-3 with 12 minutes left but could get no closer and the Dragons closed out their championship season with an empty net tally with 1:15 left. Congratulations to the Southlake Carroll Dragons.
In the Varsity Bronze final, The Allen Eagles defeated Birdville 5-1. Birdville grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first period but Allen stormed back with 2 goals in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd. Allen outshot Birdville 32-22 for the game and Allen goalie Cooper White made 21 saves. Congratulations Eagles.
The Junior Varsity Championship turned into a rout with Northwest defeating Plano East 8-0. Northwest scored twice in the first period and added four in the second period before closing out the scoring with 2 in the third. Plano East battled hard but Northwest, who went undefeated all season, had too much firepower. Congratulations Northwest.
At the JV Bronze 1 level, the Richardson/Rockwall Raiders beat the Denton Conty Spartans 7-1. Both teams upset high ranked opponents in the semi-finals and fought hard to get to the final. The Raiders got on a roll early and built a 7-0 lead halfway through the game. The Spartans got on the board late in the third to avoid the shutout. Congratulations Richardson/Rockwall.
The JV Bronze 2 Final was a thriller as the Highland Park Scots beat a tough Arlington squad 5-4 in overtime. Arlington raced to a 3-0 first period lead before Highland Park scored to make it 3-1. Late in the 2nd Arlington scored again to regain their 3-goal lead but the Scots countered with 2 goals late in the second to cut the lead to 4-3. Play in the third period was back and forth until late in the period with just under 3 minutes left the Scots got the equalizer sending the game to OT. Arlington outshot HP in overtime but it was the Scots who eventually banged home the winner with under 4 minutes to play. Congratulations to Highland Park!
